Day EIGHT: Munich

Starting the normal day around 7:20, we head down to breakfast and are greeted with an amazing arrangement of many delicious foods. Something unique that we were presented with was a juice machine. It had a tablet with about six different drink options and you put your cup beneath and could fill it with. In terms of food they had chocolate croissants, fresh bread straight from the loaf, egg pancakes, and several different jams that complimented the pancakes perfectly. To add some normalcy with delightful bacon that made our morning. Continuing on with the day, the LPA travelers boarded the bus.

The bus ride was silent as we emotionally prepared to enter the Dachau Concentration Camp. Stepping on to the grounds, the somber atmosphere hit us immediately. From there, people spread out to tour different exhibits. The exhibits offered different explanations and images that depicted the life of the prisoners in the camp. For many, this was a difficult thing to see, but it was important because it gave us a real life experience to what we learned in school. While walking we saw many guided tours happening. There were many emotions presented by the people on the tours. It was surprising that the people in these camps had access to a library. Seeing the lost belongings from these people was not easy because it really showed how real of an event it was. The camp gave us something that we could never have when reading a book.

Further continuing the day, we had a delicious lunch at BMW World. There were many cool exotic looking cars, for example there was a mint green and mean machine which made for a great machine. Paytyn and Delaney had a lunch consisting of a pretzel.

Leaving BMW World we got back on the bus and met our tour guide named Colette who was really engaging and funny as we visited the Olympic stadium and Nymphenburg Palace. At the palace we got out to take photos of ducks and swans, but of course the palace as well. Fun fact: Swans have very strong necks, or so Paytyn claims. Colette dropped us off for free time at Marienplatz where we had time to shop and explore the city.

We ended the night with a dinner of ribs, mashed potatoes, and Sauerkraut. For dessert we had a delicious chocolate and cherry pudding that everyone enjoyed. Concluding, today was bitter sweet, but we are grateful for this amazing experience that we will look back on and cherish forever. HUGE thank you to EF Tours and Gwen for making this such a fantastic trip, and thank you to the chaperones that made this possible!
